Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has struggled for form in the opening weeks of this season and the England senior national team skipper has talked about the poor form in his latest interview as monitored by BBC Sports. According to him, transfer speculation this summer and defeat in the final of the European Championships took its toll on him.

The 28-year-old Tottenham Hotspur striker led the line for England throughout the European Championships in the summer and he was instrumental to the run all the way to the final. In the final of the tournament at the Wembley Stadium, Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw struck first for England as early as the second minute, but they could not build on that fast start against opponents Italy. The Italians grew into the game and they were rewarded with the second half equaliser from Leonardo Bonucci deservedly. Neither side added to their lone goal tally in regulation time and extra time.

Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho plus Arsenal star Bukayo Saka all missed their spot kicks during penalty shootout as Italy emerged champions with a 3-2 win on penalties.

The transfer speculation involving Kane, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City also affected his form as revealed by the striker who has 41 goals in 65 games for the Three Lions of England and has netted nine times for the team in this calendar year.

Kane believed that he had a gentleman’s agreement with Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy for him to leave the club in the summer. Kane wanted to leave the North London club for Manchester City, but the Premier League holders were unable to meet the outrageous asking price from Spurs thereby leaving him in a disappointed state.

Generally, Kane has struggled for form this season with one goal and one assist in ten league games.
